Fading the edge of the volume-profile value area
The reversion premise did not hold at any zone definition, and the break needs an independent tape to confirm on.

The hypothesis, as pre-registered
Price reverts from the edges of the prior session's value area, and breaks beyond it continue — both tradeable with a volume-profile zone as the trigger.
What the test found
The bounce side failed on every zone definition tested: value-area high and low, point of control, and single-print extensions. There is no reversion edge at these levels once costs are charged.
The break side was more interesting and still failed. When the zone break was required to confirm on a second, correlated index, the confirmation did not arrive often enough to trade — and unconfirmed breaks are not profitable.
This is a common shape in the record: an idea whose mechanism sounds structural, but whose levels are defined by the same price series they are supposed to predict.
What would make this work
The zone would have to be defined from information outside the traded series, and the break would have to confirm on an independent tape at a rate that leaves a tradeable number of signals.
Every insight ends with this line: the exact condition that would turn the finding into a tradeable edge. That is what makes each entry a next experiment rather than a full stop.
