The weeks the gap changes
The US moves its clocks on the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November. New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT, Tasmania and South Australia move the other way, forward on the first Sunday of October and back on the first Sunday of April; Queensland and Western Australia do not change at all.
- From 4 Apr to 2 Oct 2027, Sydney is 14 hours ahead of New York: the US open lands at 11:30 p.m. instead of 12:30 a.m. (next day).
- From 1 Nov 2026 to 13 Mar 2027, Sydney is 16 hours ahead of New York: the US open lands at 1:30 a.m. (next day) instead of 12:30 a.m. (next day).

- CME Globex opens for the week at 6:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, which is Monday 9:00 a.m. in Sydney until 31 Oct 2026. From then it trades around the clock until Friday, with a one-hour halt every weekday from 5:00 p.m. ET (8:00 a.m. (next day) in Sydney).
- What time does the US stock market open in Sydney time?
- The New York cash session opens at 9:30 a.m. ET, 12:30 a.m. (next day) in Sydney until 31 Oct 2026, and closes at 4:00 p.m. ET (7:00 a.m. (next day)). The index futures trade before and after it, but their heaviest volume sits inside it. Most US economic data lands an hour earlier, at 8:30 a.m. ET (11:30 p.m.).
